For most of the year the water temperature rarely drops below 75F and can be in the 80s. The wildlife is truly spectacular. Take a trip on a sea-plane or a fast catamaran ferry to the Dry Tortugas; these are a cluster of small islands 80 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico which is a protected National Park. The islands are on a coral reef. The trip takes you to a preserved 19th century fort surrounded by a bird and wildlife sanctuary. South West Florida is a golfers paradise with a wide selection of courses. The excellent weather means that you can play golf all year round on courses where queues are rare. Want to explore the Everglades? Then use Naples or Fort Myers as a base and visit this unique wildlife habitat; see alligators, a profusion of birds and a vast expanse of wetlands. Of course, if you just want to relax and enjoy the weather, then the beaches are wonderful; with clean white sand and clear warm water. The area has a large selection of shopping malls and outlet centers to keep even the most committed shopper happy. Some outlet centers include famous designer names, where prices are very low compared to those in the UK.
